Taking Over D.C. Is Just the First Step

I don't mean to bury you in emails. I know this is my second one today, and I get it—nobody needs more noise in their inbox.
But we're living through something here. Something that doesn't wait for publishing schedules or polite timing. We're watching our democracy get dismantled piece by piece, and the luxury of measured, weekly commentary feels like arranging deck chairs.
You signed up for my writing, not my silence. When something urgent needs saying, I'm going to say it. Not because I want to spam you—because I respect you enough to share what matters when it matters.
Good news: I've figured out how to move my work from Substack to Ghost without sending you an email every time I transfer an essay. So, while I'm rebuilding the archive here, you won't get pinged for every piece of housekeeping.
If the frequency is still too much, I understand. Unsubscribe without guilt. But if you're staying, know that your part of something bigger than content strategy. You're here for the real conversation, the one that can't wait for convenient timing.
Thanks for reading. Thanks for caring enough to be here.
Okay, here's the story.
Yesterday, trump deployed federal troops to Washington, D.C. Called it “liberation day.”
Liberation from what? A democratically elected city government.
Cursing is not my thing; however this is BULLSHIT!
His description: “violent gangs and bloodthirsty criminals, roving mobs of wild youth, drugged out maniacs and homeless people.” FBI on “community patrols.” National Guard activated. Federal control of the Metropolitan Police.
All to fight crime that’s been falling for two years.
D.C. Homicides:
2020: 198
2021: 226
2022: 203
2023: 274 (26-year high)
2024: 187 (down 32%)
2025: 163* (projected, through Aug. 10)
The spike was 2023 when trump was president. The drop began in 2024. It continues in 2025.

Yet trump says:
“It has become one of the most dangerous cities anywhere in the World.”
“Crime is totally out of control.”
“A filthy and crime-ridden embarrassment to our nation.”
“A dirty, crime-ridden death trap.”
“A nightmare of murder and crime.”
Every word a lie. Every number ignored. His own people know it.
Pam Bondi: “Crime in D.C. is ending and ending today”—as if the drop began when troops arrived. Jeanine Pirro: “They don’t need to be coddled anymore… shouldn’t be going to arts and crafts in family court.” The same Pirro who admitted days earlier: “Crime is going down in D.C.” Karoline Leavitt: “Plagued by violent crime for far too long.” Pete Hegseth: National Guard in a week.
They’re not fixing a crisis—they’re staging one.
The trigger? Former DOGE staffer Edward Coristine was beaten in an attempted carjacking. Horrific, yes. But violent crime is down 26% from last year. This wasn’t an epidemic. It was an opportunity.
This is the pattern: create the emergency, deploy the solution, take the credit. Border policy, tariffs, now D.C. Break things, then sell yourself as the fix.
D.C. went 92% for Biden. trump’s been calling it “filthy and crime-ridden” since his first term. He’s threatened federal takeover for years. Now he’s doing it.
If Congress lets him federalize a city of 700,000 without a fight, he can do it to Chicago, Los Angeles—any city that voted against him. The precedent is set, the legal frame tested. Every Democratic mayor just became replaceable.
The Constitution gives Congress ultimate authority over D.C. trump doesn’t care. He’s already talking about overturning the Home Rule Act. Mayor Muriel Bowser thanks federal agencies for “cooperation.” That’s not cooperation—it’s surrender.
This isn’t about safety. It’s about proving he can put boots and badges anywhere he wants, for any reason he chooses, and nobody will stop him.
D.C. is the pilot program.
The man who tried to overthrow democracy now poses as its protector. The criminal claims to fight crime. The chaos agent sells himself as order.
He’s not coming for D.C. He’s coming for every city that didn’t vote for him, then all of us.
The capital fell without a shot fired. Your city is next.
