The United States spends more on medicine than any country that has ever existed. In 2024 it ran past fifteen thousand dollars a head, near eighteen percent of everything the country produces, roughly twice what the other wealthy nations spend. For that money a person should live forever. They don't. Life expectancy in the United States sits around seventy-eight years, three years under the average of comparable countries, and the gap keeps widening. Australians spend half as much and outlive the United States by years. The country pays top dollar for a worse result, arranged on purpose, over decades, and calls it a free market.
